While in a patient's Progress Note, a Global Period banner will display in the Coding screen of the EHR if a patient is currently in a global period due to a procedure performed during a previous visit.
Once you tap on the red Global Period banner at the top of the Coding screen, you will be able to view the details of the notification. The Global period notification will contain prior procedure codes, remaining number of days within that period, date of service, attending provider, and also billing provider.
The same Global Period notification will display in the Practice Management System within the Encounter screen, as Encounters come into the system. To view previous Global Period notifications (to see whether the patient was in a global period on a particular date of service), go to the patient's chart > Encounters and click on the encounter you are looking for. The same notification details will be available by clicking the Global Period banner at the top of the Encounter screen.
Please note: The system will not automatically add modifier 79. It must be added manually to any CPT codes you want to report it with.

This is a great feature. So many times the modifier is missed because you did not know they had surgery/procedure.
