For the system to automatically generate an NDC code for billing, you must first make sure you have the proper information listed in the Treatment Plan settings. Providers will be able to update this information under Settings > My Profile > Treatment Plans.
Within the treatment plan, you will need to add Injection or Application as a procedure segment and then the detail of the substance injected or applied. It is important to note that the system will not be able to pull the correct NDC code without Unit Type, Substance, Volume, and CPT Code being defined. These fields can all be predefined in the treatment plan settings or they can be added on a visit-by-visit basis. Failure to define one of these fields will lead to an unspecified NDC code pulling or no NDC information pulling at all.
Once this information has been documented and the progress note has been signed off, the NDC information will be visible in the Encounter screen of the Practice Management System. You will see a red (i) icon to the left of the J code which indicates some NDC information is attached to that J code.
By hovering over the red (i), you will see the NDC information automatically generated based on what was entered into the EHR. You can click the (i) to modify the information or to fill in each field manually so that the NDC information is submitted with the claim.
