Many documents get automatically saved to a patient's chart, but there are some system-generated documents that do not (listed below). Some of those documents, specifically referral letters, will have "Save to DMS" as an option from the Share icon.
DMS stands for Document Management System and it is the name for the documents section of the patient chart.
Below is a breakdown of what documents get automatically saved to a patient's chart followed by the folder they get saved to in parenthesis; and which documents do not get automatically saved, but do have the Save to DMS button available. Any time you use the Save to DMS button, that document will be saved to the Correspondences folder.
Documents Saved Automatically:
- Signed Consents - (Consents)
- Any results entered via the inbox flow, such as labs and pathology - (Results)
- Lab requisitions - (Requisitions)
- All progress notes - (Progress Notes)
- Procedure notes - (Procedures)
- Any pictures taken within the progress note - (Pictures)
Not Saved but has Save to DMS option:
- Referral letters (General, Mohs, and Biopsy)
- Letter templates
Please note that referral letters will automatically save to DMS if the referral letter is created when reviewing the pathology from the Pending Review section of the Inbox, so, in that case, you will not see the Save to DMS option.
It is recommended to save any referral letters sent out via fax or paper, as this will place a copy in the patient's chart under the Correspondences folder for your reference and you will not have to search through the fax log to find them.
